The Faithful Writer

The Faithful Writer conference (2 August 2008)
I've been to the Faithful Writer conference today. It wasn't exactly what I expected it to be, especially when I learned that the main speaker (Mark Tredinnick) was not a Christian, while I was under the impression that this was definitely a Christian gathering. Maybe I was wrong.
However, overall, I think it was a worth-while experience for me and I can say that I learned a few things through the conference, although I will not write much about them today - I'm simply way too tired for it.
Will I attend next time, if there was one? Maybe. While Mark did his good job, and I'm sure he is an expert in what he is doing, it simply was a matter of the mismatched expectation on my behalf. Hence, I think I'll do a bit more research on the main speaker before I register.

Settling back

Since I came back from my overseas trip, I haven't had any strong urge to write a blog post about pretty much anything. While I was traveling, I wanted to write about many different things, and had few ideas about what I'd post first and what I'd be saying in them, but strangely, the desire has quietened down a lot.

Or... maybe I'm just not as depressed as before and require less "venting" than before. I don't wish to give up writing, and in fact, I've registered to attend "The Faithful Writer" conference the other day, so I should get back into writing habit again, just like I am doing right now.

I should remember that I don't have to post up the good stuff all the time, but relax a bit more. I hope you as a reader would also understand my lax attitude about blogging from now on.

The best writing tip I heard in recent days.

Just read Five Words You Can Cut at the DWT
In short, beware of using the following five words: "just", "really", "quite", "that", and "perhaps".
Considering how often I tend to use those five words, probably because I am too defensive most of the time, it's just the tip that I really needed to hear and put into practice perhaps. ;-)

Hopefully I will remember this tip and write more concise yet convincing sentences from now on.

"The daily writing tips" is a great site for such helpful tips, go check it out yourself.
